Campus Corps has allowed me to participate as an intern field instructor with Ecology Project International, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing field research-based experiential education programs to students in Costa Rica, Mexico, Ecuador, and Montana. This summer has been phenomenally formative, experiencing the rewards and drawbacks of outdoor education firsthand. The most rewarding and fulfilling parts of the work are the reactions and transformations manifested in the students. I will never forget a conversation I had with a young lady with a ludicrously tough background where she poured out her heart to me, telling me how much the trip had meant to her and how it had completely changed her perspective on not just nature, but life. As icing on the cake, she expressed her new found desire to attend college. Oofda. Been a heck of a summer.
