“Why I chose to serve in an elementary school: reason #47….
In honor of Veterans’ Day, the school that I am serving in had an assembly today. All the veterans in the audience sat in chairs of honor at the front of the gym. A slide show of all the related military personnel in the staff and students’ lives played for the entire school to see during the assembly. The gym teacher’s son, a man in the Air Force, was the speaker. But the greatest reason I loved the assembly was the two songs the students had memorized and performed for the veterans. There was not a dry (adult) eye in the school after the students finished their musical performance. Hearing the children thank the men and women who served our country was nothing less than magical. I was proud to be serving in this teaching profession at that beautiful moment.’’
