I had the opportunity to spend my summer with 38 low-income high school students. The students attend class during the day and then come back and experience residential life on a college campus. This helps them to become comfortable in the college settting. As a service learning project, we packed up all the students and went to an area of town that was struck by a tornado and helped with the cleanup. I think many of the students were surprised with the amount of debris. The students graciously donated their time to help their community and I think learned to appreciate it a little more.
