Sudden Changes by Justin Kauffman
My professor, Toni Cancilla, was teaching my Advanced American Sign Language Vocabulary class when i found out that there was a student on campus that needed better accessibility to learn in classrooms. I am deaf myself, but i am studying interpreting. This student needed a deaf interpreter to make things clear for her in her class. So the disability adviser asked Toni and me to see if it's even possible for me to be an interpreter for this certain student. That meant i had to cooperate with a hearing professional interpreter for this student. She had struggles in the class at beginning of the semester with just a hearing interpreter. However, as time goes with me as her interpreter and teaming up with the professional interpreter, she became more motivated and wanting to learn more. She understood a lot of things and she could get more involved in the class. Her grades really showed a lot of changes that she went through. The student was very happy that she finally got to understand better and got the opportunity to speak out loud. After this semester, i realized that the career of interpreting is the one for me. If it wasn't for MT Campus Corps, i wouldn't be able to share this really good story with everyone.
