College Students Meeting Critical Community Needs

This summer I had the opportunity to co-teach a summer camp that was specifically for young girls. The camp was focused on mixing science with fashion to create a high-tech outfit. At the end of the four day camp all of the girls were to model their high-tech outfits in a fashion show in front of a crowd of onlooking parents. After the first day of camp I was wondering how things would turn out- some of the girls seemed unsure and others uninterested. Before I knew it, four days had gone by and the girls had all prepared their own high-tech outfits and were preparing to walk down our handmade runway in front of their audience. I was so proud to see how far they had all come- everyone of them in an outfit that that they had spent hours creating. It was so exciting to see the girls rush up to their parents after the show- all able to tell them all about everything they had learned throughout the week!
