Montana Campus Corps:
College Students Meeting Critical Community Needs
Patient Progress by Wilhelmina Lisa Prugh

From the day I began my Campus Corps community volunteer effort at the Brendan House I embarked on one main goal: ' patient' progress with patience. In other words, while working daily with a geriatric population of individuals with varied diagnoses my main goal was to patiently and confidently administer therapeutic care to meet their healing needs to progress them into a healthier state of mind and body and ultimately help them to return to their previous living arrangements.
Through the weeks I helped individuals patiently progress through their functional return to normal activity. One of my most memorable patients was a woman who I met during my first week of this volunteer assignment. At our first introduction, she answered my questions with "I just want to die" answers. I worked tirelessly with her for 8 weeks. On my final date of service, she was due to discharge also. Sure enough, we left together and her complete personna had improved and she was a "new person" on her way home! I felt we had learned together what patience for patients was truly about.
