A Little Boy Who Will Be Able to See His Future! by Anita DuChane
During a clinical experience on the Ft. Peck Native American Reservation I had an opportunity to assess and care for a good number of children in their school clinics. One little boy came in with a sore foot which I promptly examined and assessed.
Since we were also doing screenings for several conditions and general health I proceeded to give him a thorough head to toe assessment. To my surprise this little boy could not see the letters on the eye examination chart. His vision was so limited that I called my instructor over to re-examine his eyes.
We discovered that he needed glasses. Upon discussing more on this topic with him we found that he was unable to see the white board in his classroom and was having a lot of trouble in school. Through the federal program he will be able to have glasses at a price that his family can afford.
This service project is going to open a whole world of hope for this little boy and perhaps lead to a brighter future for him now that he will be able to see the world around him.
