St. Patrick's Internship by Whitney Lamb
I was an intern at St. Patrick's hospital in the Clinical Informatics department this past summer. My job was overwhelming at first, with multiple projects going on at once, and all the job shadowing that I was doing with everyone in the department. As work was described to me at first, I was very confused and had to ask a lot of questions. As I started to communciate more and more and learn the software, I learned how to do my work correctly and how to get it done in timely fashion. As I worked there longer and longer, employees started to treat me more like a real employee and less likean intern. I started to attend weekly meetings, and took notes as the different departments discussed weekly issues on how to prepare for the implementation of EPIC for next summer. I started understanding the job more and got a feel for what the department goes through every week. I also attending training sessions for software updates, and even got to experience a procedure in the Cath Lab. That was the most rewarding part of the job for me. I then started interface testing and learned how to efficiently work on my own with out any help. This internship was very rewarding and I cannot wait to work at St. Patrick's Hospital next summer.
