College Students Meeting Critical Community Needs
Math Tutoring by Mikayla Hirschkorn

My mentor teacher and I heard that HOT (an after school tutoring program) had been cancelled due to funding. We created an after school math tutoring program for the students to come in and ask questions. We partnered with the high school and now have several advanced math students volunteering their time after school to come in and help middle school students with their math! It has been amazing to see the difference this program has made for students struggling with math. Grades have improved and most importantly confidence has improved in the students that come in after school. The room is full almost every night and I love helping a student overcome a concept they have been struggling with and gain understanding!
