Helping make remedial Algebra Students enjoy math class by Tyler Cherry
I believe the most important experience I will take away from my student teaching this semester are the relationships and impact I had on my two Algebra I Concepts and Skills classes. These are students who failed the first semester of Algebra I last year, and thus were taking the second semester of Algebra I Concepts and Skills with me this Fall semester.
My students by and large told me I made math class fun. They enjoyed coming to my class. I maintained a fairly light atmosphere, and we had a few laughs this semester. However, we still got a lot of math work done.
Upon me completing my student teaching, my students in these remedial classes repeatedly told me they were going to miss me. They said I helped them to understand the material, and they were fearful they couldn't succeed without me. They also reiterated that I was the most fun part of their math class. I will never forget these students, and their compliments about my teaching and our relationships are extremely important to me.
