Montana Campus Corps:
College Students Meeting Critical Community Needs
Volunteerism is Mutually Beneficial for All Involved by Corinne SolonarKong

The principal of the only non-Title 1 school in the district informed me that our several America Reads/ America Counts volunteers helped to make a large impact on student learning to the extent that the school was able to meet Adequate Yearly Progress that year on their national Criterion Reference Test (CRT). The school would otherwise not have had enough volunteers to work one-on-one with individual students who were not performing at grade level. The same principal also reassured other new principals in the district to request our volunteers, making it possible for more University of Montana volunteers to also gain greater experience working with youth in local public schools while meeting program requirements. A volunteer program of this type mutually benefits all who are involved!
