Montana Campus Corps:
College Students Meeting Critical Community Needs
Campus Corps enters its 16th year! - 09/01/2009

For 15 years, Montana Campus Corps has been "Getting Things Done" for Montana by engaging college students in service.  2009 marks the beginning of a new era for the program, with more campuses participating, more students serving, and more communities benefiting than ever before in the program's history.  The challenge remains to create a network of engaged students that are committed to a common purpose: meeting Montana's most pressing needs, one community at a time.

As Campus Corps enters its sixteenth year as an AmeriCorps program, it is essential that constituents re-evaluate the effectivenes of the program--what we currently do well and what we could be doing better.  With a student population that changes every year as enrollments rise and academic programs expand, it becomes a priority to educate individuals about the opportunities available via service programs like Campus Corps.  In the 2009-2010 academic year, the program expects to engage over 900 Montana college students in AmeriCorps service, and thousands more in volunteer projects and community events.

The tremendous popularity and universal acceptance of new marketing technologies, such as web-based social networks, have dramatically changed how we communicate with one another, and how we transmit information.  This is especially true for today’s college student.  If the mission of the program is truly to engage students in meaningful service, then it is necessary to re-define exactly what “meaningful service” is, and how best to engage our target audience.
