A Winter Coat by Sierra Olszewski
At my school, we have a fund that will help buy winter clothing for our students who are in need of it. I have one student who's father has cancer and mother is not very involved in her life because of alcoholism. She is one of the sweetest students in the class, and she works very hard on all her work. My master teacher and I asked if she needed a coat because her coat was dirty and worn. She told us no, that she would be OK because she has lots of coats. We checked again later in the week, and again she told us no. Because of her situation, we decided to order her a coat anyway. We ordered it in a bigger size, so that she would have it next year pending on her family situation. When her coat came in, it was purple, her favorite color. I hung it in her locker, and when she got to school, she came in the room with it on, and she had a huge smile. She was so thankful and was beaming with joy. I will never forget how such a simple act can make a big difference.
