Words for Change

2010 Campus Corps Writing Competition

*ipod Prize*

Attention Campus Corps Members:

Here is your chance to BE CREATIVE!  The Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) wants to give you a chance to SHARE YOUR STORY with the state.  You spend so much of your time giving back to your community and we want to recognize you!

The MTCC network office is conducting the first annual Words for Change writing competition!  Please submit a piece of creative writing that reflects your Campus Corps service experience.  Submission criteria is open; it could be a poem, a story from a day of service, an account of a person who has affected you, a reflection of what service has meant to you or just a creative way to describe your view of volunteerism.

Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges, and finalists will be recognized at the Campus Corps Spring Summit, taking place April 16-18 at Montana State University-Northern in Havre, MT.  One winner will be chosen from among the finalists and will receive the top prize: an 8GB Apple iPod nano .  In addition, all submissions will be edited and compiled into a publication.  Time spent developing your piece can count towards member development hours and all submissions can be used to fulfill the “Great Story” requirement for the program.

Words for Change writing competition submissions are due February 26th via email, with your last name and “Words for Change submission” in the subject line, to Chrissy Orangio at orangio@mtcompact.org. Emails must include the member name, campus, contact information (email and/or phone number) and title of the story.   Please take your time to write a well thought out, clear poem, short story, or essay about how service has affected you and/or the community.   Use the writing samples, below, for inspiration and ideas, but keep in mind that all submissions must be original pieces.  If you have any questions contact Chrissy Orangio, Campus Corps Senior Leader, by email or by phone 406-243-5671.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy a cup of coffee while you tell your story to the state, region and nation!
