LEARNING WHILE HELPING by Michelle Twiford
I started this venture thinking that I needed a career change but found that I was making more changes than I ever dreamed. Once upon a time I worked in a busy office, it was important work but not personally fulfilling. When I decided to go back to school and enter the medical field, I had no idea that I would be so satisfied at the end of each day. Every day that I am at my clinical site, I am able to help people. Sometimes it is as simple as a smile, a cup of coffee, a box of tissues, a reassuring pat on the back. Just being able to assist patients, technologists, nurses, etc. makes my day. I have also had a tremendous opportunity to learn my new career by volunteering my time assisting those that do what I want to do. It has been a wonderous learning experience. My volunteer service has shown me that I am getting more out of it than I could ever put into it.
