Being a Patient by Seely Bergstad
Through all my volunteering experiences, I would I have to say one of the experiences I will not forget is volunteering as a patient. I was pretending like I got into a car accident, was dressed up with clothes that revealed some of my wounds. I had certain things to say to indicate where I was hurt. I went through this scenero multiple times so NPs, PAs, and MDs could assess me and determine what they needed to do. This was a great experience in many ways for me. I learned a lot, I got to see what it is like to be a patient who is relying on medical staff. I also got to see the assessment done from someone other than a nurse. This helps the medical community improve there skills, and they really need and appreciate there volunteers. Great experiece.
